July 9, 2010 I HAVEN’T been writing in my dieting blog as now in my job there have been some internet rules that have changed and I can’t blog as much as I used to. Also there is no available meetings on the weekend anymore which means that I have to hit the 6 pm meeting on Thursdays. I have skipped a few meetings and haven’t been eating write and as a result have gained about 2 – 3 lbs at the fault of my own. I have this fast food temptation where no matter how many small meals I have, I need something now and I need it right away. Since July 1st I have been doing something called Laser Lipo which is like lipo, however, it is a less invasive form than traditional. More expensive and there is sometimes recovery involved, however, not as bad as straight Lipo. Due to my anemic-ism this was one of the options. I didn’t expect to have a model perfect body considering that 98% of the photos are photo shopped and that I’ve met enough celebs in real life to know that most of what I see is not what is in the pics. I work hard at my body, however, sometimes, we all need a little help in certain areas. I’ve noticed a reduced in 2”…not a lot but noticeable to me. I didn’t expect a lot as even any form of Lipo isn’t a miracle by any means, it’s just a helper. You’re either born with a perfect body or you’re not and some have the curves and some don’t. I don’t hate my curves, I just wish they weren’t so big sometimes.
I’ve been on a more liquid diet, however, I do have to watch as some liquid diets can also pack on a lot of calories, just as bad if not worse than solid foods. I have stayed away from empty calorie stuff like ice caps, milk shakes etc. and have been getting more into smoothies until I can feel confident and comfortable with solid foods.
It’s almost like teaching yourself how to eat again like you’re a baby and sometimes that is what it takes…baby steps. Few things have been added to my liquid diet.
I’ve been mixing pure Collagen powder form with water or juice. Collagen ingested can Help skin, bones, nails, muscles and weight control. I normally don’t believe in a lot of hype involved with associated with a lot of products, however, The Collagen has helped me improve the healing a lot better since it improves the elasticity of the skin, makes it soft and provides that extra healing boost which keeps you full as well. Haven’t noticed a change in the quality of my nails and skin, however, I don’t drink and or smoke, therefore, this was never a problem for me to begin with.
Another assistance in the liquid diet is a smoothie blend mix by Vegn. Basically it is completely gluten free vegan protein that you can mix with other fruits and veggies. I have tried other protein mix drinks and I find that what is in it, especially whey protein is very hard for me to digest. There is also some veggie mix in it, therefore, I feel as though I am getting both veggies and fruit. It’s $26 plus tax for a bag for 15 servings = $1.75 per 500 ml which is a lot cheaper in comparison to a gym and the Starbucks version of a protein smoothie which can cost $5-$7.
Back to the Lipo. On my stomach I had a 6” overhang which has been visibly reduced to 4”. I have to be very careful ‘cause the fat can come back if I am not careful as this is not a permanent solution.

June 14, 2010 This weekend, Metric weekend with my best friend was easier said. I packed us pic nics so that I would’nt be tempted by crap and than after, had a long walk home (to avoid crowd transit anxiety) and to burn some calories. On the way home, I was honest with my best friend in stating that a lot of my eating has been emotionally triggered and the walks, burning around 400 calories, helped encourage me to beat the situation that I am in. Even if my complaints fell on def ears that night, at least it felt good that I can beat the impossible. I may not be able to change the situation at the moment, however, I feel that things will get better. Having my best friend agree to eating fruits, veggies and sandwhiches was the huge step as I need encouragement when dinning out with people. |

June 11 I’ve been neglecting my diet Journal and honestly, neglecting my diet in general. I still count points in my weight watchers tracking system, however, haven’t been to a meeting in 6 months due to job re-location and the fact that I’ve been having to take misc jobs to make up the difference my new under paid job gives me to make ends meet comfortably. Today is a new day and 2” on both the waist and hips since 1999, the first in all those years as I’ve kept the same body shape, it’s time to take my diet seriously….again…for the 6th or 7th time. I’m making a few changes in my life to make the dieting easier. First is getting a better paying job so that I can just work M-F and use the weekends for going to the gym and my meetings instead of finding ways to make ends meet IE: Ebaying for 4 hours over the weekend. Because of this, I haven’t seen much of my friends to play sports with. It’s just not my wallet that is taking a hit, especially since my hours at work have been reduced but it is also my health that has taken a hit. Last week with a few concerts and other social gatherings, I was forced to eat Fast food since I had no time to go home, however, I am done with the excuses this time and I need to really start taking things seriously. First step is re-vamping my diet. No more chemical induced foods or at least keeping it to a bare min. The less the better. Here is what I ate today: 2 Bananas = 2 1 apple = 1 1 C plain 2% MF yogurt w/tbsp Torani syrup = 2 2 C blueberries = 2 3 slices white bread = 4 2 eggs, microwaved = 4 1 thin mint = 1 1 chicken patty = 2 Yogurt sauce = 1 Cali flour = 0 2 pks crackers, 8 = 2 1 cookie = 1 4 fortune cookies = 2 Total = 24 Burned: Pilates = 1 Misc = 1 Sex = 1 Total = 3 Out of the choices, I could’ve done without the white bread and had whole wheat and as for the no chemical diet, I had to ad some Splenda sweetener to satisfy the sweet tooth without the added calories. I went two points over with some semi bad choices but nothing too heart breaking. I learned that there is no fat in fortune cookies.

I learned that fruit “vitamin” juices aren't all that healthy as one may think. In fact if a juice has more than 13g of sugars, that which equals 1 C of raw carrots, than one should stay away as they're just as bad as pop.

I'm trying to eat as much Gluten free as possible. It is hard when Gluten free is expensive and not very readaily available. I found these Gluten free cookies or wheat free as their called from Starbucks for $1.75 per pack of 3 cookies. The taste isn't that bad to tell you the truth. These cookies contain no egg, wheat, barley, rye and are nut free. They're 3 weight watchers points per pack and will not spike up your insulen level so it lasts longer. More information about these cookies can be found at drlucys.com
I've been working a lot of overtime for the Olympics which means that I haven't been able to work out as much as I've been wanting to. Prior to the office shuffle I would take my portable DVD player, lock mysellf for 15 minutes in the lunch room and do a mini workout at least 3 times a day, now with new staff being hired, lack of space and the cluster fuck that is the Olympics, I have no room to work out which means that I've gained some weight. In addition to that, my boss has decided to be nice and provid lunches for the staff, however, the lunches are cheap and quick foods in large quantities with little room for nutritional substance. We had Chinese food yesterday and as the saying goes, which I believe to be true, it just makes you hungry an hour later. It was difficult to feel satisfied at work food wise.
I made some nutritional compromises:
Breakfast:
Gluten free cookies = 3 points
protein platter from starbucks = 6 pts
steamed milk with ½ shot syrup = 2 points
acai juice, sugar free = 0
Lunch
meat balls, 4 = 8
cesear salad = 3
brownie = 2
½ C potatoe salad = 5
1 C grapes = 1
acai juice, sugar free = 0
snack:
Gluten free bar = 2
2 C acai juice, sugar free = 0 |

June 5, 2009 Jamie Oliver on his show has been talking a lot about sodium. I don’t know how sodium is bad for you for those losing weight, however, if sodium is bad is as everyone says it is than maybe I should be conscious of mine which I have been this past week.
My favorite breakfast meal is plain oatmeal and fresh blueberries and no sugar. The president choice instant oatmeal, prepackaged and proportioned as 150 mg of sodium, however, a large plain bag of quick oats by president’s choice has 0 mg. There is no difference in taste between the two, therefore, why does the instant, proportioned packages have more sodium than the large back that requires a little more cooking effort?
Sodium is a natural element according to the wiki that everyone needs, however, an average person should have approx 2300 mg of sodium per day which equals 1 tsp of table salt. Sodium is an electrolyte and plays a key role in hydration. Sodium works to push water into cells while potassium does its job of pushing waste out of cells.
I was personally shocked to learn that a simple cup of soup has up to 250 mg, the same in soda pop.
Speaking of soda pop, Josh and I found a soda pop that has approx 5 mg which is in Bolans root beer. I will be on a quest this week to find low sodium foods and to really pay attention to foods that are low in sodium.

June 26, 2009 Curious to know what you’d look like after you lose certain amount of weight before you lose it as motivation? I was watching the doctor’s and they promoted this site called http://www.weightview.com in which you can upload your picture and within 72 hours you can have an approx of what you will look (approx) when you lose the weight. The site is currently under maintenance, therefore, haven’t uploaded my pic, however, just wanted to blog this. Although I’m on Weight Watchers and the last 10 lbs are a struggle this will be the motivation I need to work harder than I already am.
After reviewing the site, I walked away from the computer and continued with my errands and a though occurred to me. All those before and after pictures on diet and fitness sites more likely aren’t the real IE: Photoshopped. I’ve known this forever, however, just the realization that it is 100% possible not only discourages me from trying certain products but is also a relief that maybe some goals aren’t attainable.
I’m not trying to be negative especially since I like to encourage people, however, I was 110 lbs in high school, I know that I’m not going to get that way at 28 for a few reasons: I have more muscles, my boobs are bigger and unless you starve, it’s very unlikely that I’m going to have the same body as I did back in high school. |

I’ve been eating a lot of gluten free foods not ‘cause I’m a celiac but ‘cause it’s better for you than wheat. It doesn’t spike my levels which means that I am full longer.
There’s a company called Glutino which sells gluten free food, however, more expensive, still worth it where you can find it. I have my luck at Nesters and sometimes Superstore.
A good on-line source for ordering Glutino and other brands for gluten free foods can be found here http://www.glutenfree.com |

For the first time in literally 2 years I bought a magazine, Women’s Weekly magazine ‘cause of the health tips, information, as well economy tips.
Here are some facts:
1. You can satisfy your craving by eating just one thing at a time. People who eat multiple different items are more likely to over eat by 12%.
2. Kamut is better breakfast cereal mix as it contains more protein, lower on the glycemic index which means sustains you longer without spiking levels and more fiber.
3. Eating 2 cups of cherries reduces belly fat by 14%/year.
4. 1000 mg of Calcium + 500 mg of magnesium daily helps reduce belly bloat/fat.
5. When you’re menstruating eating 2 C of fresh fruit will help with the bloat.
6. Artificial sweeteners make you fatter as it fuels bacteria growth that causes bloating.
7. Why drinking pop is bad for you in the summer is ‘cause the sugar spikes insulin levels which trigger hunger. Because you’re body is working twice as hard to process, you feel hungrier and the more you eat, the hotter you feel since the body is trying to process the calories. |

I had an interesting conversation the other day with my sister. My sister has a head shot from when she was a teenager at 90 lbs. I look at that picture that was too skinny. My sister used to eat 2 Big Macs and be invincible, so she says. The truth is no one is invincible. Metabolism when we’re younger works differently. As we get older, it slows down and our bodies don’t work as well as they used to. I’m not a scientist or a nutrition list, however, this is common knowledge that most dieters understand and believe.
My sister at age 35 will never get the 90 lb she had when she was a teenager unless she starves, however, what she will have is a realistic attainable weight and figure range.
Let’s be honest, my sister, like most young teenagers think that they’re invincible when it comes to calories and do very minimal exercise to sustain their metabolism. Now my sister is paying for it years later. My sister from our conversation kept saying, “what happened?” Instead of wondering what happened, she should take responsibility for what she has done which was years of making really bad culinary choices.
I to was like my sister. I was on the chunky side growing up, my sister reminded me of that from time to time, I accepted after college that my weight gain was my fault and no one else’s. Instead of looking at the past and wondering “what happened”, I moved forward and worked on what I can do.
My sister would rather blame others than herself. The minutes that you accept your own faults, the easier it is to lose weight as you’re more psychologically prepared.
Let’s be honest, I’m not going to get the body back when I was 16, however, I know that with the right choices that I am making, good exercise and going to my weekly Weight Watchers meetings that I won’t be 250 lbs. |
